About

We have become disillusioned by the quick-fix promises and the shaming-and-blaming culture that surrounds us. Those promises and that culture is especially obvious in the world of health and wellness.

We want to live a life filled with meaning and purpose. We want to make a difference. Maybe we have a vision to change the whole world. Or maybe we’re focused closer to home – to improve the lives of our family and our local community.

We want to feel good in our bodies and minds. We want to be engaged, intellectually and socially. We want to feel satisfied.

We know we can improve our own health AND the lives of others.

We know it won’t happen overnight – it never has before – and we know that it is worth working towards.

We are ready to start taking steps towards the life we want to live. We are ready to keep taking those steps.

We want to connect with others who are on this journey and move forward together.

Hi, my name is Samantha. I’m the person behind this website.

My day job is working as a dietitian in a small town in Northern Ontario. I call myself a jack-of-all-trades dietitian because I work do acute care, long term care, home care, and outpatient care. I work with people individually, in groups, manage the hospital kitchen, and deal with administrative work. I work with people of all ages and all health conditions.

I do some freelance writing here and there.

And then there is this blog. It’s a passion project for me. And I hope it is helpful for you.

The content here is a blend between my knowledge and experience as a dietitian and my personal experience of being a human. As a dietitian, I have been exposed to different ways of understanding what people need to be healthy. As a human, I’ve struggled to find balance between all the things I want to do and all the things I need to do for my own well-being.

How can we simplify all the information out there on how to be healthy? How can we sort through all the noise of what we “should” do with our lives? How can we design our day-to-day actions so that it supports the life we want to live?

These questions are at the heart of what I am writing about here.

If this is of interest to you, welcome. I’d love to have you on this journey while explore these ideas and experiments that can get us closer to the live we envision for ourselves and those around us.

The best way to keep in touch is by jumping on the email list. You’ll get an email from me each week on updates and the stuff that I’m working on. Hit reply on any of those emails and it will come straight to my inbox.

-Samantha.
